Jim Bader, DVM

I graduated in 1988 from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to forming Mapleview Animal Hospital in 1992, I spent 2 years practicing in Allegan and 2 years at another practice in Holland. Since graduating, I have completed several certificate programs including certification in Shelter Medicine and Veterinary Forensics (University of Florida); Non-profit Management (University of Illinois-Chicago); and, Veterinary Chiro-Practitioner (VOM Technology). I am currently in the process of completing my Master’s Degree in Shelter Medicine at the University of Florida.

I am married and have four children. I enjoy traveling, cooking, home improvement projects, golf and archery. My family and I own several different types of animals which, I think, helps me to relate better to owners when they bring their pets in for a visit.

Veterinary Medicine is enjoyable to me because of the diversity. I relish learning as much as possible about all species from chameleons to kangaroos. This can be challenging at times, but is also very rewarding.

I have been with my boyfriend, Greg, for almost 8 years. We have two golden retrievers-Brandi and Mieka. We also have two Betta fish - Sushi and Spring Roll. In my free time I have fun riding my motorcycle in the summer and snowmobile in the winter. I also enjoy gardening, baking, cross-stitching and building my dollhouse.

I have worked at Mapleview Animal Hospital for 13 years. I started in the boarding kennel and have progressed from there. I perform multiple tasks at Mapleview including being a vet tech, kennel manager and reception. My favorite is being a vet tech and assisting in surgery.

I have 2 wonderful boys, Jordan and Ethan. Jordan attends Western Michigan University studying Aviation; Ethan is a junior at West Ottawa. We enjoy lots of family time activities including beach time and baseball games. A lot of our free time is spent supporting our boy’s activities. We love watching and attending Detroit Tigers games as often as time allows.I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. They all keep us very busy. At any given time there is usually a rescue kitten or sometimes a puppy in residence as well. In my free time (what is that?), I also volunteer for Headin’ Home Pet Rescue. I love it and love seeing all the rescue pets in our area that have come from it. I love reading, walking my dogs and just hanging out on any given sunny day by the pool.

I joined the Mapleview team in September 2012. My favorite part of the job is assisting in surgeries, and working with all the different pets. I grew up with a variety of animals throughout my childhood and since then developed a care for animals in need.

When I'm not at the clinic, I spend most of my free time outdoors. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, riding my quad, barrel racing and building motors or working on my truck. I am the proud owner of a Blue Heeler, "Chief", a German Shorthaired Pointer, "Hank", and two horses, "Cash" and "Liberty".

I started working at Mapleview Animal Hospital in April of 2016 after I retired from Gentex Corp. Being a country girl raised in Sparta, and my love for animals, this seemed like a perfect job. What I really love is the caring of the boarding cats along with all the rescue cats and kittens. In addition, the occasions when there are also small dogs and puppies. I have two daughters, Jodie & Korene (and son-in-law Ted), a son, Trevor, three grand children, Ben, Maelynn & Nikki, and one great grandson, Emmett. They're all the Rainbows & Music of my heart. I enjoy working outside on my yard, flower beds and garden, going for walks, reading, camping, fishing and kayaking. I have 2 wonderful dogs, Zoey & Brady. After working only one month at Mapleview I brought Bradyhome so he could heal better after leg surgery and he never left. Yep, I'm a foster failure!
